Arch70: Arch70

Arch70 is a fresh formation of three Norwegian musicians known
for their work with the band Sphinx, and the British pianist Matthew Bourne.

The Norwegian trio was searching for the final ingredient in their musical brew, and consulted an old aquaintance who has made a remarkable entrance on European venues over the recent years. It turns out as a powerful formula which combines sonorities from fusion of the Seventies with new ideas and influences. Contemporary jazz rhythm, tonalities from Eastern traditions, rock energy, techniques and ideas from contemporary classical composition and sheer open-minded improvisation melt together in the encounter between these four strong individual voices.

Anders Lønne Grønseth, Audun Ellingsen and Ulrik Ibsen Thorsrud have worked in the quartet Sphinx for a decade, touring extensively in Europe and Japan in recent years. They also released a trio album in 2004 under the name Sphinx Trio, along with Norwegian saxophonist Petter Wettre.

Matthew Bourne is one of the most original and innovative musicians on the young European jazz scene.  His solo recitals has won him much acclaim, as well as the BBC Radio «Innovation

Award» in 2002,  and International Jazz Festivals Organization (IJFO) International Jazz Award in

2005.
